SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS



The symptoms of thoracic outlet syndrome depend on what is being compressed (or squashed) in your thoracic outlet .Symptoms are more likely to be due to nerve compression. However, sometimes a combination of nerves and blood vessels may be compressed at the same time. This can give rise to a mixture of symptoms.

Symptoms are usually just felt on one side of the body. Rarely, symptoms can occur on both sides.




COMPRESSION OF NERVE CAUSES:

  • pain and pins and needles in your arms or hands.
  • pain in upper back,upper chest,outer arm,near neck and ear
  • affected hand becomes weak.
  • sometimes headache




COMPRESSION OF BLOOD VESSELS CAUSES:

  • Compression of blood vessels is rare.
  • arm may become swollen and appear blue.
  • pins and needles in hand and arm.
  • blood clot may also occur in the subclavian vein causing blockage.                      
  • If this symptoms persists urgent treatment should be needed.
